Remanufactured Printer Ink Cartidges

Recycling printer ink cartridges is often something many people simply do not think about or even care about. But they should!

A Harris Interactive poll conducted as long ago as 2004 found that way back then, an incredible 55.6 percent of American consumers simply threw out their empty printer ink cartridges rather than recycling them in order that they may be refilled and reused.

Back then those 270 million or so used printer ink cartridges were adding more than 40 million pounds of unnecessary waste to the American trash stream every single year. If that’s not bad enough, the even worse part of this for the environment is that used printer ink cartridges can take more than a thousand years to decompose. That means they’re hanging around polluting the country for more generations than you can imagine.

Going back into recent history, around 1990, the rising retail prices of printer consumables motivated printer companies to begin cleaning, refitting and refilling the empty printer ink cartridges so that they could be resold as a less expensive re-manufactured product.

A study conducted by the Rochester Institute of Technology, also conducted in 2004 found that these re-manufactured printer ink cartridges provide exactly the same quality and page output as brand new printer ink cartridges.

This is good news for printer users, of which there are now many millions. The savings that can be made by using re-manufactured printer ink cartridges are quite considerable and for heavy users this cab represent a big saving on their annual consumables bill.
